Ulderup æbles History and usage Ulderup æble is originally from Denmark from the southern Denmark from Ulderup ved Sundeved Ulderup æble is a seedling, formed 1890. Ulderup æble has been known in Denmark since 1913. The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Ulderup æble is or has been suitable for growing in orchards. The apple is a dessert apple. Ulderup æble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is medium. The cultivar is sensitive towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Ulderup æble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Ulderup æble got scab attack on almost half of the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on very few shoots, flyspeck/soothy blotch on approx. 25 % fruits and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is yellowish pink, the blossom is early. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 6/26. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is medium early, to enjoy from September/Oktober. Ulderup æble is mature for harvesting middle early (last part of September). The apple has an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy/very juicy with a strong/a medium sweetness, medium acidity and some aroma. The acid content in the juice is 0,45 %. The sugar content in the juice is 10,7 %. The overall flavour of Ulderup æble is evaluated as medium good. The apple stores for a long time. The external of the apple The apple is big with a length of 82 mm and a diameter of 78 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is oblong-conical and very asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is dark red. The covercolour covers approx. 25 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush/a weakly defined flush with strongly defined stripes. The surface of the skin is rough / hammered/waxy. There are only few lenticells. The lenticells are medium sized. The colour of the lenticells appear white in relation to the groundcolour and lightbrown in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is long and thick, approx. 15 mm long and approx. 3,8 mm thick. The stalk is swollen. The stalk of the center fruit has often a fleshy knob in the cavity. The cavity is medium deep, with some russet. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is small and closed. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is funnel-shaped/conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle/near the margin of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The core is ellipsoid. If you cut the apple horizontally, the core will look open. The diameter of the core is approx. 28mm. The core fill out approx. 0,36 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are medium sized and brown. The skin is 5,7 and the fruit flesh has a 1,3 colour. The flesh is soft with a course
