Sildig Sandholt Æbles History and usage Sildig Sandholt Æble is originally from Denmark Sildig Sandholt Æble is a seedling, The variety is or has been grown rarely or not at all in Denmark. Sildig Sandholt Æble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The yield is high. The canopy density is good. The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, very robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Sildig Sandholt Æble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Sildig Sandholt Æble got no scab on the leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, no shoots with mildew, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at young shoots/older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is dark pink, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are medium sized with petals, that are touching each other. The variety is triploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 1/9/20. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is late, to enjoy from November/December. Sildig Sandholt Æble is mature for harvesting late (last part of Oktober)/middle early (last part of September). The apple has only a little/an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a medium sweetness, strong/medium acidity and none or a weak/some aroma. The apple has only a small tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Sildig Sandholt Æble is evaluated as medium good/good. The external of the apple The apple is medium to big/big with a length of 56 mm and a diameter of 68 mm, measured at maximum width. The shape is flat/flat-globose and a little asymmetrical/very asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is green. The covercolour is red/purple. The covercolour covers approx. 50 %/75 % of the apple. It forms a only a solid flush/flushed and mottled. The surface of the skin is smooth. The colour of the lenticells appear light brown in relation to the groundcolour and lightbrown/greyish white in relation to the covercolour. The stalk is medium size and thick, approx. 10 mm long and approx. 3,1 mm thick. The stalk is swollen. The stalk of the center fruit has often a fleshy knob in the cavity. The cavity is medium deep, with some russet. The basin is a little ribbed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted at the base of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the base of the tube, but don´t touch each other. The diameter of the core is approx. 24mm. The core fill out approx. 0,35 of the cross cut of the whole apple. The pips are large and brown. The skin is medium thick/thin and the fruit flesh has a white/greenish colour. The flesh is hard with a medium fine/course texture. The flesh has no/a medium tendency to browning when cut.
