Grænseæbles History and usage Grænseæble is originally from Denmark from the southern Denmark from Ribeegnen Grænseæble is a seedling, formed før 1924. Grænseæble has been known in Denmark since 1911. The variety is or has been grown occasionally/rarely or not at all in Denmark. Grænseæble is or has been suitable for growing in orchards. Grænseæble grows at the Pometum. The cultivar is also shown at: Gl. Estrup. The tree The cultivar is very robust towards apple scab, robust towards apple mildew og very robust towards apple cancer. Grænseæble got in the period of 2006-2009 evaluated under unsprayed conditions. Grænseæble got scab attack on very few leaves, no scab attack on the apples, no fruit cancer on the branches, mildew attack on approx. 25% of the shoots, no fruits with flyspeck/soothy blotch and no shoots with rosy apple aphid. The flower buds are mainly situated at older branches. The colour of the flower at the balloon stage is purple, the blossom is in the middle of the season. The flowers are small with petals, that are overlapping. The variety is diploid and has the following alleles of self-incompatibility 7/8. The quality and season of the apple The season of the apple is early, to enjoy from August. Grænseæble is mature for harvesting very early (first part of August). The apple has more than an average attractive appearance. The flesh is medium juicy with a strong sweetness, weak acidity and some aroma. The apple has a big tendency to be easily bruised. The overall flavour of Grænseæble is evaluated as very good. The apple stores for a very short time. The external of the apple The apple is medium to big The shape is flat-globose conical and a little asymmetrical. The groundcolour of the apple is greenish yellow. The covercolour is orange. The covercolour covers approx. 25 %/0 % of the apple. The surface of the skin is smooth. The basin is medium deep, and the eye is large and closed. The internal of the apple When you cut the apple from eye to stalk, you can see the following characteristics: The tube is conical and the stamens are inserted in the middle of the eye. The green lines around the core end at the middle of the tube. The pips are medium sized and beige. The skin is medium thick and the fruit flesh has a yellowish colour. The flesh is hard with a medium fine texture. The flesh has a strong tendency to browning when cut.
